Johannes Cabal – the Necromancer & Johannes Cabal the Detective

The third novel – The Fear Institute arrived the other day, also excellent, I’m really really enjoying these.

Cabal is a little bit Sheldon, &  a little bit Sherlock Holmes – wonderful stuff, funny, clever, dark.

Took the chance to finally move all the plasterboard into the office from where it has been sitting out in the rain for nearly a week, and to mow the grass.

Tomorrow its wiring & insulation, & then we can start putting up the plasterboard

Gripping, fast moving SF, with some really cool concepts (like an order of bodyguard nuns) & a central character who is smart, bespectacled & funny – very funny.

Also makes use of the Firefly “swearing a lot but in another language” trick to great effect.

I throughly enjoyed these novels

Ok – these are very very good.
I have now read them again, & possibly ever better the second time around, and in only 2 months!

Pretty horrible weekend to be roofing, but on, in spite of the rain & wind & huge storms. On saturday we got 25mm of rain in an hour.

The philosophy behind the build is quite simple. A nice big (8.4m x 3.6m) office, with plenty of room. Well insulated, with switchable power supply (grid to generator), & using locally sourced materials.

The location makes a nice courtyard with the main house, & eventually there will be direct access to the office from the northern house fence boundarypoint. The western wall will feature a veranda along the whole length, with a grape vine covered pergola (or whatever you call it) structure, allowing lots of light in winter, & lots of shade in summer.
